Vehicle Description

1987 Ski-Doo Formula 500
Snowmobile

 FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
I’m listing this sled for a good friend who doesn’t do eBay. He bought it of the original owner and used it very little over the last few winter seasons. Anyhow, a change in employment forces the sale of the machine. The machine has new track guides and 2 new center bogies. She was just tuned up and readied for summer storage.
TITLE INFORMATION:
my friend never titled it in his name therefore it will be sold with a bill of sale.

THE STORY:

Now, where do we start? Let’s talk a little about the engine, my favorite part on this sled. I don’t know about you, but I grew up in a ‘world of plenty’. Plenty of 2-stroke engines that is! There were 2-stroke chain saws, generators, stationary engines, lawn mowers, farm tractors, trucks and even huge ocean going ship motors that were supercharged 2-stroke diesels! But what really did it for us back then, was the line of incredibly exiting motorcycles with 2-stroke engines, 1, 2 and 3 cylinders. Basically all of the GP bikes were 2-stroke powered(with the exception of  the large MV Agusta, Ducati, Honda & later, BMW). Kawasaki had the 250 to 750 street legal triples, Yamaha ruled the 350 & 500 GP class with their 2 cylinder 2-strokes, Morbidelli took world championship with the Joerg Moeller designed 125cc twin and Dutch VanVeen-Kreidler was unbeatable in the 50cc class. Moto Cross was a similar story: all 2-strokes (there was the 500cc BSA Victor but it wasn’t seriousely competitive). Even HONDA (the die-hard 4-stroke guys) designed and raced 2-strokes in the 125 and 250 class, known as the Elsinore models. So, what happened? The only thing that stopped the further development of the design is the ’open gas exchange’ that occurs in these engines. It produces higher levels of emissions and makes emission control impractical and/or very expensive. But trust me on that one: the 2-stroke is going to be back, just wait and see……..
Anyhow, sorry for getting caried away a little! What I was trying to get at was, that the 2-stroke is the superior engine design when it comes to simplicity and horse power per cubic inch (or cubic centimeter). They are much more exiting to operate and can be more reliable and last as long or longer than todays 4-strokers. They sure are more fun and if you never tried one you owe it to yourself to go out and do it!

THE CONDITION:

The sled is in very good condition, was always maintained well and operated by a grown-up. Never raced or abused, this is a very clean and awsome performing machine. The sled got new track guides and 2 center bogies last fall. We didn’t get a lot of snow this year so the parts are still like new. Also worth … Click For More Info
